"Unlocking Dreams" by J.D. Arden is a fascinating book that explores the language of dreams and their interpretations. It is very well written, and there were no spelling or grammar errors that I could detect. I very much enjoyed this book. It re-ignited my interest in dreams, and it inspired me to write my dreams in a "dream journal." J.D. Arden explores the many facets of dreaming, such as nightmares, lucid dreaming, symbolism and using dreams for problem-solving and emotional healing. In our society, many people think of dreams as nonsensical ramblings, but the author challenges that belief as he investigates the science behind dreams and sleep. He also delves into how ancient cultures viewed dreams, often as a means to understand spiritual truths. What I loved about the book is its emphasis on using dreams to help us in our everyday lives. The subconscious often sends us uncomfortable truths which can help us to confront various situations in waking life. J.D. Arden explores the various interpretations and ways that we can decipher the "code" of the subconscious. I like his idea that we can have a "conversation" with this normally inaccessible part of our consciousness. I had read about many of the things that the author discusses, but he writes it in such a fresh and straight-forward manner that it will spark an interest in trying the suggestions (i.e. to induce a lucid dream while sleeping, try performing reality checks in real life by asking "am I real?" or "am I dreaming?") The book and its chapters are short, but it contains a lot of useful information and wisdom. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in dreams and dreamwork.
