Damnatio Memoriae is not just a story — it's a reclamation. A literary resurrection. A divine rebellion against being forgotten. A must-read for fans of historical fiction, LGBTQ+ stories, and anyone who loves tales that unearth history's lost voices. 🗡️🏛️👑 #HistoricalFiction #LGBTQHistory #RomanEmpire #ForgottenVoices #SporusRises
S.P. Somtow’s Damnatio Memoriae is a riveting finale to his Nero and Sporus series, as usual blending historical gritty truth with a poetic flair. Through Sporus’s eyes (a slave turned Empress) we ard witness to the real chaos of 69 AD, which was the Rome’s Year of Four Emperors. Somtow evokes the brutality, decadence, and ridiculous flavor of the times, while the raw and reflective voice of Sporus carries the tale from beign a slave to a memorable climax in the Circus. The book is rich with vivid detail and philosophica nuances. It’s at the same time a visceral historical epic and a reflection on identity and power. The ambiguous ending leaves you wanting some more of the same!
In the thick of this story by book 5 I'm fully interested and ready to see where the characters go. Even though the AI art is a little off-putting I'm just not a fan of that style and think the book stands better without it.
