This book is so much fun! Every page has a new fact that makes you go “Really? Wow!”. Perfect for someone like me- who loves learning fun little things to share with friends.
Did You Know? Gives you a lot more that the usual trivia collections. Rather than just listing oddball or hard-to-prove claims ("bees can samba" “pigeons understand English” and the like), this book offers genuinely fascinating facts—with background, context, and even beautiful photography to draw you in. Its ethos after all is “Each fact has been chosen not only for its ability to entertain but also to educate and inspire.”: At this it succeeds. Chapters are thematically grouped—covering everything from strange animal behaviours to groundbreaking innovations. One standout section explains the Northern Lights in a way that’s both scientifically clear and emotionally compelling. Another favourite of mine explored the Voyager space missions. This isn’t a throwaway fact-a-day book; it’s a book. And it reads like a very good one. Two Great Facts from the Book : 1. Octopuses have three hearts—and two of them stop beating when they swim. (Their bodies are built for crawling, not swimming. This quirky design makes their elegant underwater gliding even more remarkable.) 2. The Voyager Golden Record includes greetings in 55 languages, brainwave recordings, and music from Bach to Blind Willie Johnson. (It’s a time capsule hurtling through space, carrying Earth’s story—just in case anyone’s listening.)
When I opened this book, I expected to find lists of various facts. Instead, it is a well-written narrative of history and human learning. While I would not say this would help me win a Jeopardy match, it is a quick and entertaining read. Most of the information I already knew, but I still learned several things. It would be great to take on a trip to read on a plane or while relaxing on the beach. I also think that this would entertain young adults and may even stimulate some conversations. I found the references that the author lists to support his work extremely valuable. It's well worth the price.
Eclectic collection of facts that makes for interesting ice breakers. My favorites were the bees' waggle dance and origins of the humble zipper that we take for granted everyday. Your guaranteed to learn something new. Fun read!
This book is loaded with facts that I had no idea existed. For instance, a jiffy is a minimal measure of time. Plants and trees send VOCs (vital organic compounds), which form a complex system to warn other plants and trees of danger. These are fascinating facts I never knew. There is so much more in this book, which covers various categories, and I enjoyed it very much.
A lot of times you get a book with interesting facts and it is fun to read. This book stands out because it adds details (explanation) of the facts. So, not only are there interesting facts but because it is explained, you can actually understand why, how, and are much more likely to remember the fact. Interesting topics, easy to read, and entertaining. I enjoyed it.
This book is super fun & interesting. It is a quick read and my favorite part was the section on space. I have a very intellectually curious nephew who loves to read, and this is definitely going to be his next birthday present!
This was a really fun book to go through with my son during his homeschooling! He loves interesting facts, especially about science and the world. I'm really glad I got to experience it with him. I'd let him pick the page, and I'd tell him the interesting fact. Definitely recommend, it's a great conversation starting and curiosity-sparker for anyone.
This book is like falling down the best kind of curiosity rabbit hole. I’d open it to read one fact and end up flipping through chapter after chapter. From glowing oceans and octopus intelligence to the secrets of the stars, every page is full of things that made me pause and say, “Wait, really?” It’s the kind of book you want to share with friends just so you can all be amazed together. A light, fun, and surprisingly inspiring read.
*Did You Know? A Pocket Guide Full of Fascinating Facts* is one of those books you pick up out of curiosity and end up reading way more of than you planned. It’s packed with quirky, surprising facts that make you go, “Wait, really?”—great for sharing with friends or just feeding your inner trivia nerd. Some parts felt a little random, but honestly, that’s part of the charm.
This is a really interesting read. Each topic is well organized and contains thoughtful examinations of the subject. There are 12 chapters, covering a wide range of topics, so there should be something for just about everyone in here.
Fun book for sure. Love the one about houseplants giving off a scent. I feel like mine tell each other to just die. lol Great book for road trips or plane rides!
I love trivia and "useless" knowledge. If there's a good rabbit hole, I'll fall down it. This book was great - a reminder of some random facts I've heard once or twice in my life and plenty of new ones too! A great book for passing time when you might be interrupted... like when flying.
This entertaining and educational book got me with its first question, ”Did you know a single teaspoon of honey represents the life’s work of 12 bee’s?” I found the book’s plethora of little-known facts a refreshing escape from the usual boring trivia and chiches we encounter in the daily media. The book is well-written with colorful photographs enhancing its meaningful explanations of the truths behind its many facts. I also found it useful as a reference book since the various collections of facts are categorized in chapters, e.g. science, pop-culture, or human achievements. At 82, I strive for quality of reading time and this little gem was worth it. Five stars all the way.
