About the Author

Marlene holds a master’s degree from Sonoma State University in mass media and English. Her thesis was about fantasy and reality. She interned at The Sebastopol Times right out of college, where she wrote for five years. "What Is It? Smog" is her first book. Both her mother and her father succumbed to fatal respiratory conditions, which shaped her first book's subject matter. It is an enchanting journey led by a wise old owl that not only educates but also inspires readers to take action for a healthier planet. "The Three Miserable Witches," her 2nd book, is a fantasy mirroring reality statement on the current struggle of women in a man's world, set in the medieval time period. Marlene is an emeritus prayer practitioner with the Center for Spiritual Living, Santa Rosa. Over the years, she also studied spiritual tools for making sense of the world in a tangible way to manage her own life's path. Raised by a single mother, she decided to pursue Plan B for a while. Instead of choosing the path of a writer, she chose the secure path of working for the YMCA, SR Entertainment, and then First American HBP, which gave her the security she needed at the time. At this point in her life, she is choosing Plan A, the path of a writer. Like everyone, her life has taken many twists and turns, which is what makes a good writer. Her blogs: Movies of the Spirit and Prayers of the Spirit
