What I liked most about this novel, was discovering a writer who has talent and will grow into an excellent novelist. "In Too Deep" has its faults, mostly its the lack of strong editing; far too many unnecessary errors. Wrong word usage, wrong punctuation ... sentences that ramble and are not crisp, that drift, sometimes for an entire paragraph without a single punctuation. The author uses way too many prepositional phrases to begin his sentences. And then he allows them to ramble sometimes for the entire paragraph. The prose are written for a very young, immature audience, making it difficult for older readers to connect. The best audience for this novel will be late high school, first year college students. All of this said, Hayes has crafted an interesting story. All that is left for this talented writer is to clean up the rough edges. Pay attention to detail. Get a strong editor and understand that good writing is rewriting ... as many times as it takes to get it right. Worth the buy if you are interested in discovering new talent. Would love to read his work five years from now.
As someone who appreciates a deeply psychological mystery, In Too Deep pulled me in from the very first page. The tension builds relentlessly as Kyle's seemingly ordinary college life transforms into a dark and twisted nightmare. The characters are raw and real, and the secret at the heart of Kyle's romance with Sussie left me breathless. It's not just a love story; it’s a journey through deceit, desire, and danger. Every twist kept me on edge, and just when I thought I had it figured out, another layer of suspense unraveled. This book is a haunting rollercoaster that I couldn't put down
