The author writes from experience. There's no replacing that. I actually feel like she's my kind and supportive friend and I didn't realize how much I needed that! It's been years since my abusive relationship, but she helped me see how I still need to let go of some things that I've carried into my current wonderful relationship to make it even better. I feel motivated to seek the support she suggests and that's worth so much!
I enjoyed learning about how toxic relationships come about. I made several mistakes but also the book gives good advice on how to move into the healing phase after meeting with a narc or toxic person.
I highly recommend this impactful, self-help book that covers all the deep emotional issues leading to and resulting from a toxic relationship, and how one can confront them in a positive, constructive way. It is extremely well-written with great depth and comes close to actually sitting down with a psychologist or therapist. Every aspect of a toxic relationship is dealt with including root childhood causes, warning signs, types of abuse, support groups, and actions one can take to build a better life for themself. I must admit to feeling better after reading it. Five stars all the way.

This book really helped me understand toxic relationships better. It doesn't just talk about why relationships go bad, but gives real ways to fix your life after. The author explains things in a simple way, and I liked that there were no confusing words. She talks about emotional and verbal abuse, not just physical, which I hadn’t thought about before. One part I found really cool was how each chapter starts with a short story about a character, Melissa. It made the advice feel more real, like it could happen to anyone. The author also says that understanding why someone acts toxic doesn’t mean you should forgive them, and I think that’s important. If you feel stuck in a bad friendship or relationship, this book could help. It’s easy to read, short, and gives lots of helpful advice.
It all goes back to learned behavior, it seems. The autor does a great job of setting out the root causes of why we wind up in toxxic relationsships. I agree with every word, and its hard to overcome. The chapter on Roots Causes of Codependency I found life changing. Great read!
After reading this book, I realized I've had quite a few whacked relationships in my life. I could have used this book many times in the past. I like the way the author seems to write from personal experience. That made me more comfortable with the advice, and it seemed more genuine. After being cheated on, I primarily related to needing to rebuild my self-esteem. I liked a lot of what this book has to offer.
