Nancy, a struggling writer and widow, moves with her 12-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, from New York City to her father Jacob's ranch in Montana. Jacob runs a dog rescue, and Nancy hopes the fresh start will help her rediscover her passion for writing. As she settles into small-town life, she finds inspiration in Muffin, a mischievous Collie, and begins writing a cozy mystery novel. Along the way, Nancy bonds with her niece Samantha, a Veterinary technician recovering from a traumatic animal poisoning case, and develops feelings for John, a local store owner. As the rescue ranch becomes involved in a community-wide effort to address animal welfare, Nancy realizes that healing, love, and a new beginning might just be waiting for her in Montana.
