I really liked this book. It’s about a college student named Bailey who starts off with her life pretty much on track, but then meets a guy and slowly starts making choices that pull her away from everything she thought she wanted. The story does a great job showing how this can happen so gradually that you don’t even realize it until you feel stuck. Bailey is a very believable character—I found myself rooting for her and sometimes wanting to shake her at the same time. Her relationship with her sister felt very real, and the way her parents reacted to her decisions also felt true to life (if a little frustrating). The parts where Bailey writes in her journal or haikus gave a nice extra layer to her character. The writing is easy to read but thoughtful. It really made me think about how we can end up living a life that wasn’t what we planned, just by going along with things or not standing up for ourselves. If I had one complaint, it’s that the middle of the book felt a little slow at times, and I wished some of the side characters had been developed more. But overall, it’s a very good read and one I would definitely recommend if you like character-driven stories about real life choices and consequences.
This is by far one of the best books. If you have ever given up on your dreams when you were young, only to wake up one day and ask yourself. What am I doing? You would relate to this story of one woman’s years of hoping things would get better in a toxic relationship. Bailey had put off what she wanted so long that she lost who she was... a writer with a story to tell.
Until you are in a situation, you don't know how it feels, what makes you stay, what gets you confused. This story rang true, so many find themselves in a situation where they don't know what to do, or how to get out of it. Too many times it happens that one person, usually the male, is a loafer. Doesn't want to do anything, take and take.
