This book plunges deep into one's identity and fate amidst shadows of darkness and chaos. With the highly acclaimed protagonist Rhys-who was cursed this journey through his forgotten past he faced monstrous forces he had to fight. I was sucked into his struggles with him and I hoped he came unscathed out of this turmoil. The world building is teeming with life, magical oaths, and treasonous betrayals around each bend, with just the perfect amount of rich description of setting and a thriller type storyline to whisk one into the adventure. And adding Jude into that, a great, strong female character, really amplifies it. It's actually not about fighting at all; it's about deep, personal journeys of self-discovery. A dark fantasy with emotional depth sewn inside if you're into this genre, then you simply have to read this. It changed everything for me, and now I await the sequel.
The Chronicles of the Chosen Undead: Book 1 - The Gifts of the Dark God is an enthralling dark fantasy that pulls you into a world of magic, undead horrors, and ancient prophecies. The protagonist, Rhys, is a cursed undead navigating a dystopian landscape teeming with sorcery and conflict. The lore is rich, and the suspense of whether Rhys will fulfill his destiny keeps you hooked. Fans of dark, soul-inspired fantasy will love the immersive world-building and deep moral dilemmas.
I really enjoyed this first of the series book. With many books, I find myself getting lost in who the characters are and what character the book is talking about at the moment. With this book, I really liked how it broke the chapters up and labeled the start of each section with who it was going to be talking about. This helped me follow each characters part in the story. As the story progresses, I had a harder and harder time putting the book down. It makes you want to just keep on reading. I can't wait to read the next book.
This is a very well written and entertaining fantasy book. The world building is solid. The character development it good too. I was especially into Rhys and Jude. Their nemesis had a air of invincibleness that made the tension high. There was also a great deal of tension provided in the relationship between Jude and her sister. The storyline lagged a little, but not more than is usual in the genre, for the purposes of world building. Overall, I recommend this book to fans of sword and sorcery.
