I don't own a restaurant but EVERYONE agrees that running one successfully is very difficult. Which is why i read this book, because although i don't own a restaurant i do run several businesses and sometimes to succeed you need to think outside the box and look for advice away from your core business model. why do what everyone else in your industry is doing? how will that set you apart? I'm so glad i read this book because its given me ideas and directions to go that otherwise i wouldn't have thought of otherwise. it also puts into perspective my aim to always be the best. there's a quote in the book leaders don't always offer the best food or service. they win by solving specific needs or specific life moments better than anyone else. something like that anyway and it's true, you don't need to be the best, you need to understand your customers pain, their NEED and then package up a solution to it that takes that pain away. do that and it doesn't matter if the solution is perfect, the solution solved the problem and your customer is happy and telling everyone how great you are. This isn't a book about restaurants, its a book full of ways to improve your non restaurant business in ways you've not yet thought of.
