Compelling, intelligent writing. The author has certainly done his research -- the scenes revolving around world military and political might feel very believable. I would have preferred more resolution at the end but the writing up to that point was so strong I couldn't put the book down. The characters were compelling, layered, flawed, and likeable.
The author has created two very interesting protagonists in archaeologists Katerine Rebelais and Kate Pierce. Many other characters feel real as well. And the layers that are uncovered about them and what they are trying to solve strike a chord we can all relate to. It feels like a prophecy that could come true. Soon. I recently returned from an adventure to many ancient Mayan ruins. I pictured these mysterious temples as I read the book. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but if you enjoy creative, intelligent, thrilling science fiction that feels deeply personal at the same time, this book is for you.
