Gary Naiman's "Storm Rising" isn't just science fiction; it's a chillingly plausible look at a near future where America teeters on the brink of collapse. Set in 2028, a nation crippled by government dysfunction, economic turmoil, and a seemingly endless war in the Middle East cries out for change. Into this volatile landscape steps Claire Minton, a charismatic war hero and third-party presidential candidate who ignites the hopes of a disillusioned populace. Naiman masterfully paints a picture of a nation yearning for a new direction, perfectly capturing the desperation and the fervent hope that Minton embodies. The story unfolds through the eyes of a combat reporter, recently returned from the war-torn battlefields of Iran. Drawn into Minton's orbit, he initially sees her as a beacon of hope. However, his discovery of a dark secret surrounding Minton and her burgeoning Heartlander party forces him to flee for his life, adding a layer of thrilling suspense to the already captivating narrative. This unexpected twist throws the reader into a whirlwind of intrigue and uncertainty, leaving you breathlessly anticipating the next turn of events. Naiman's skill in crafting suspense is truly remarkable. Each chapter ends on a cliffhanger, making it nearly impossible to put the book down. He expertly weaves together the political thriller and science fiction genres, creating a unique and compelling read. The themes of defiance, courage, and the fight for a better future resonate deeply, leaving a lasting impact long after the final page is turned.
I've been enjoying all of Gary's books lately and this one didn't disappoint. He has great skills as an author and tends to cover relevant topics. Though the formatting on the ebook is tiny and a bit hard to read, the story is good!
Storm Rising by Gary Naiman is a fast-paced thriller set during a heated 2028 presidential election. The story follows Perry Ambrose, a battle-hardened reporter, as he becomes entangled with Claire Minton—a captivating third-party candidate and war veteran with a huge following. When Perry uncovers a dark secret about Minton and the rising Heartlander movement, he’s forced to flee for his life. It’s a gripping tale packed with suspense, political tension, and a hint of revolution. Perfect for fans of thrillers like The Manchurian Candidate, this book keeps you hooked right up to its intense finish.
I believe this is the fourth book I've read by this author. And he does not disappoint. This once includes the military/industrial complex, militias, corrupt politicians and high-tech military equipment. My favorite character is Perry, a protagonist with a lot of problems. There are a lot of twists and turns. Overall, Naiman delivers a political thriller you'll find hard to put down. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Gary Naiman’s writing is both thought-provoking and chillingly realistic, making this a must-read for fans of political thrillers.
