This book is written in the second person, which I found unusual but interesting. I got into the MC, because she’s kind of weird in a antisocial sort of way. Most of the story is in the MC’s head, which I found rather immersive. As the story moved on, it became something like what a young adult might like. There were both paranormal and romantic components. The plotline was good, but it wasn't anything new. Still, I think young adults who like paranormal fiction will like it.
The Neighbors by M C Ryder is a captivating and unique blend of fantasy and paranormal that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The book follows Zoe, a strong-willed and fiercely independent maternity nurse who values her solitude and is unafraid to stand up for herself, even when her new neighbors start causing a ruckus. What starts as a confrontation with the mysterious newcomers quickly turns into a thrilling discovery that her neighbors are far from ordinary. One of the standout aspects of this book is the way it is written from the viewpoint of the reader. This unusual narrative style took a bit of getting used to, but once I settled into it, I found it added an immersive, almost personal connection to the story. The author does an excellent job of building suspense and keeping you on edge as Zoe unravels the mystery behind her neighbors. The twists and turns in the plot are unpredictable, and just when you think you know what’s happening, Ryder throws in another curveball. While the book is categorized as fantasy, I found it leaned more toward the paranormal, which only added to the intrigue and excitement. If you enjoy stories with strong characters, unexpected plot twists, and a dash of the supernatural, The Neighbors is definitely a book to check out. I highly recommend it for readers who love a good mystery wrapped in a paranormal package!
