I am reading another book by this author called Seed and I can see the similarities in writing style between them. He definitely has a successful grip and understanding on obsessive thoughts and impulsivity. It really is quite amazing. This is a very spooky story and perfect for October/Halloween. I really enjoyed the ending and was surprised by the twist—totally worth the read.
Do you often hear voices in your head? Do they make you doubt yourself and others? Do they tell you that your troubles are not your fault and that he cruel world is to blame? Or maybe these voices suggest that you get rid of the pain by killing someone or committing suicide? The hero of the story is going through a crisis and talking to himself. It happens to everyone. But this inner voice behaves strangely, as if guiding the hero, or rather, forcing him to remember. Are these memories real? Where did the inner voice come from? And what is reality anyway? An interestingly written story with an unexpected ending. It's a pity that the story is short, it could have been made into a novella. For fans of thrillers and science fiction
Wow! You ever had your life go sideways or someone give you such a crushing emotional blow your thoughts are even more damaging than what you just endured? Well, that’s how Random Thoughts A Short Story begins. I wasn’t sure if he was bargaining with himself, a psychiatrist, or a friend when the questions began…and I liked not knowing. Then the reader is given the who, and why, and what. And you think just like the guy…next step or should there be one. So yeah, WOW just wow! 5 stars
It’s difficult to write a review for a short story without giving anything away. I’ll say this, Joshua Scribner is very good at quickly drawing you into the plot. Consider those times when you have a random thought and you wonder “Where did that thought come from?” Add a stressful situation to draw on the reader’s sympathy and you have the perfect scenario to introduce both an antagonist and a philosophical question. I can’t say more without spoilers. Give it a read.
It was a mix of a sense of impending doom, puzzling out what was real and what was imagined by the main character. I found myself wondering about the psychological angle the story took and was surprised by the view that was revealed in the final pages.
