A book that reminds you to widen the lens — and stop giving so much power to pain Carlos Wallace isn’t here to coddle you. He’s here to tell the truth as he’s lived it—and that truth hits hard. The Other 99 T.Y.M.E.S. is a collection of lessons told through lived experience, each one pointing back to a central theme: we spend too much time fixating on the one thing that went wrong and not nearly enough time honoring the 99 things that went right. It’s not a workbook. There are no bullet points or checklists. The training Wallace offers is subtle but powerful: he tells you a story—sometimes funny, sometimes raw, sometimes heartbreaking—and lets the reframe emerge naturally. What would happen if you looked at your own life that way? What if you stopped dragging your pain into every room and started carrying your growth instead? There’s a grit to this book I really appreciated. Wallace draws from his time in the Navy, his experience as an entertainment promoter, his roots in East Texas, and his journey through betrayal, family loss, and racial injustice. But he never lets bitterness take the wheel. His message is clear: perspective is a discipline. Gratitude is not passive—it’s trained. You won’t find spiritual bypassing or toxic positivity in these pages. Just hard-won wisdom and the reminder that serenity is something you build. If you’re looking for a tactical guide, this might not be your book. But if you want to sit down with someone who’s seen some things, felt them deeply, and still chooses to rise with gratitude—you’ll find good company here.
This self-help book is about the author's journey in life which is relatable and reflective. The author gained a sense of gratitude through his struggles and challenges in life. Appreciating life small wins and cultivating positivity. Not focusing on insignificant circumstances and not racking the brain on them. I like the unique title for each chapter and meaning it conveyed.

This book started well. The author used a plane crash story to portray an important concept. Then there was the idea of screenshot which I loved. The book moved on in a similar fashion. The author used stories to make points. Some of this was good, but at time the author seemed to be tangential. There was a little bit of religion, but it's not a religious book. You don't have to be religious to read it or benefit. The section on hip hop could probably be thrown out. It's a good hip hop discussion, but didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book. Overall, it's an okay read that might inspire you.
I wasn't sure when I picked up this book but it turned out to be a powerful addition to my mindfulness toolkit. It has a unique way of simplifying complex mental health and self-care concepts into manageable, bite-sized lessons that are both relatable and actionable. The layout is accessible too - easy to read without feeling overwhelming.
