Chasing Shadows: The Psychology of Fear, by J.D. Arden explores fear from every possible angle. Although it makes you think about fear more deeply than one would ordinarily, I’m not sure how much that accomplishes. I would have liked to hear more stories and maybe more encouragement toward the goal of overcoming fears. I especially would have liked solutions for alleviating fear to recommend this as a book to overcome one’s fears. However, some people may find its thorough discussion about fear a helpful tool for moving past fear.
JD did a great job challenging people to conquer their fears. Especially, the dark. I always use fairy lights to bring light into my dark house at night. The downside i have to spend money on batteries every week. Great book.
My favorite thing about this book is that it explores fear at different levels and in different context. I especially enjoyed the section on cultural fear, which shows how fear has been levied by governments and religions to control people. Overall, I think this would be an educational read for many people and I recommend it to everyone.
