This was my first audiobook. It was amazing, the narration was excellent. The narrator was able to voice different characters with different accents and genders. His descriptions painted the world the author created. None of that would be possible if the material were not as good as it is, which showed me the author's skill. The story is well-crafted, with believable, relatable characters. The author creates a world that takes you in with the first chapter and unfolds with precision and care. You are drawn into that world, the characters who live there, and see their struggles. I was so impressed that I also ordered the book. Fair warning: if you get the audiobook, be prepared to listen. I thought I could listen as I did my household chores. I found that impossible. I had to listen to every word. The story is that good.
Amazing book. Will is my favorite character. I like his tenacity and his take-charge attitude. He's a little off his rocker, however. I'm looking forward to book 3. This and two have me ready to see how things are going to play out. The Goddess has made her choices....or did she?
The Rebel in Violet is a stirring first chapter in a bold new fantasy saga—perfect for fans of The Priory of the Orange Tree, The Poppy War, or An Ember in the Ashes. It’s a beautifully told, emotionally charged rebellion of both heart and kingdom, setting the stage for even deeper magic and moral reckoning. A nice audiobook!
The author of this series has really impressed me! I very much enjoy her content. It stands out like a shining star in the current sea of slop being released. Recommended!
The Rebel in Violet is a breathtaking plunge into a world of oppression, magic, and the never-ending fight for liberty. From the rain-soaked alleys of Kaylyn Towne (love these place names) to the chaotic battlefields of Lorington, Lyon weaves an emotionally charged tale that's action-packed. The hero is Will Tarran, a hardened rebel leader, and a group of memorable characters; Joshua, an innkeeper’s son looking for answers; Angelyn, a mother discovering hidden courage; and Devaki, royal princess with a magical destiny. Together they resist the tyrannical rule of The Bradford and also battle with their own pasts. Lyon’s ability to craft characters is a greta strength of the book - you just want them to win. Will is a flawed hero, sometimes determined and other times filled with doubt. Angelyn’s transformation is invigorating, her metamorphosis from innkeeper to woman of action is undistilled inspiration. The worldbuilding works and portrays an environment of cobblestones and stormy seas. The pacing will get you hooked, and the inevitable twists hit hard and fast. It's a story of freedom, sacrifice, and questioning authority. Recommended.
"The Rebel in Violet" is a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction, especially those who loved The Hunger Games or Divergent. It’s gripping, emotional, and leaves you eager for the next book in the series. Lyon has crafted a story that is not only entertaining but also thought-provoking, making it a standout in the genre. Lyon’s writing is both poetic and immersive, painting a vivid picture of a society on the brink of revolution. The world of Rhethos feels alive—dark, gritty, and full of secrets. The descriptions pull readers in, making them feel like they are right there alongside the rebels, experiencing every triumph and heartbreak.
