I believe that this story takes place in a post-apocalyptic word (given some of the descriptors). Mr. Scribner always leaves you with more questions than answers. However, it keeps me coming back and looking for more short stories. The author uses great detail in this story. As someone who has trypophobia - the scene with the prisoner coming in after being out in the sand made me a little uneasy!
This short story is a dark and unsettling exploration of faith, survival, and madness. The line, "Possession is very hard. A person’s mind has ways of removing foreign entities," helped me consider the complex nature of belief. It's a chilling, unforgettable read.
