Helpful and well organized book for those that want to start writing and aren't quite sure or are writing but lack confidence. There is a section on overcoming self doubt which was really helpful. The authoer suggested trying out different styles/techniques which wasn't something I had previously even considered! Did loads for my confidence.
This self-help book employs visualization using many analogies, e.g., lighthouses guiding ships, musicians connecting with their audience, twinkling stars, strutting peacocks, radios, gremlins, etc., to explain the “voice” of an author, the intangible link between the writer and reader which is essential to the former’s success. Emphasis is placed on the importance of personalizing the writer’s search for a voice instead of trying to emulate the voices of successful authors. Also, the trap of "perfectionism" which destroys the writer’s creative urge to tell a good story. Lastly, ignoring the temptation to prematurely edit one’s work as it unfolds to avoid nonproductive distractions and self-doubt. As a writer of sixteen novels, I found this book a good “pep-talk” attempting to define the indefinable. Four stars for the effort.
